Notering 1

  • NetWare 4 Support Pack 7. This file must be extracted at the root of the drive. (SYS:)
  • -Refined the check for available disk space on the volume. SYS:. The installation requires 70 MB without the backup option selected and 160 MB with the backup option.
  • Install checks to see if DOS has been removed.
  • Added option to install LAN and DISK drivers automatically.
  • For NetWare 4.11, before installing this Support Pack, copy the files from IWSP7\TOOLS\NW411 and its subdirectories to IWSP7\SYS\SYSTEM. This ensures that the INSTALL.NLM is correctly updated during the Support Pack installation. The best way to do the copy is with XCOPY /S .
  • Remember to copy CLI.NLM, which is in the same directory as INSTALL.NLM.

Multiple Server Install

To install the Support Pack on multiple servers simultaneously

  1. To explode the Support Pack, type <support pack filename>. Explode the file on a server's volume SYS:
Note: This file contains directory paths that could exceed the DOS limits. The file must be extracted in a root-level directory on your local drive or on a NetWare volume that accepts longer paths.
  2. Log in from a workstation as a user with console operator rights and run CCNWLITE.EXE, located at the root of the Support Pack, \NWSP7.
  3. Select up to three servers at a time to update.

Directory Services

Upgrade the root of the NDS tree first. Mixed versions of NetWare 4.11 NDS (DS.NLM) interoperate completely, but it is strongly recommended that all NetWare 4.11 servers be upgraded to the new version to ensure consistency and easier future maintenance.

When using DSREPAIR.NLM, you must use version 4.59 on all NetWare 4.11 servers running DS.NLM version 6.00.

NDS Manager Program for Windows 95 and Windows NT

The Support Pack copies the NDS Manager program to the SYS:PUBLIC/WIN32 directory. To use it with Windows NT, launch NDSMGR32.EXE from SYS:PUBLIC/WIN32.

Using LSPUPD.NLM

This NLM program is run only once, during the installation of the Support Pack. This resolves a problem with services being lost on large NLSP and RIP/SAP networks that contain a high number of SAPs and RIPs. This NLM program increases the LSP size to 1024. If the size is 1024 or larger, no change will be made. This NLM program edits the SYS:\ETC\NLSP.CFG file, which can be viewed using INETCFG.NLM. This issue only occurs on servers configured for NLSP.

Resolving LOADER Error

When the Support Pack is installed, SERVER.EXE will be updated with the current version of LOADER. Occasionally, the modified version of SERVER.EXE becomes corrupted and displays the following message: "LOADER-4.10-19: Error reading load file C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE." This corruption has been linked to the DIE_HARD virus.

To resolve the error

  1. Scan for viruses on the DOS boot drive of the server as well as any locations that the patch kit may have been copied to. Novell has ensured that the virus has not been encapsulated in the compressed Support Pack file.
  2. Rename SERVER.OLD (or MSERVER.OLD if running NetWare SFT III) to SERVER.EXE (or MSERVER.EXE).
  3. RUN LSWAP.EXE.
  4. Usage: LSWAP <LoaderFilePath> <ServerFilePath> where Default LoaderFilePath = C:\NWSERVER\LOADER.EXE and Default ServerFilePath = C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE (or MSERVER.EXE)
  5. Run the newly modified SERVER.EXE (or MSERVER.EXE).
Resolving a Server Boot Failure

If, for some reason, the server fails to boot after installation, then you will need to rename the SERVER.OLD file manually to SERVER.EXE to bring the server back up.

Installing the Support Pack if DOS Is Removed

If you remove DOS at the server, you must restart the server with DOS active in order to install the Support Pack. This is because files cannot be copied to the DOS partition unless DOS is active. (If the AUTOEXEC.NCF file contains the command REMOVE DOS, remark out that line and restart the server.)

Uninstalling the Support Pack

If you select the backup option during the installation, files that will be overwritten by installing the Support Pack are backed up to SYS:SYSTEM/BACKSP7.

The server can be restored to its original state by completing the following steps:

WARNING: Do not do the following if any products or patches have been installed after the installation of the intraNetWare Support Pack.

During the Support Pack installation the backup option must have been selected.

  1. At the server console prompt, enter LOAD INSTALL.
  2. Select Product Options > Install a Product Not Listed.
  3. Press F3 and specify the path to the backup files, SYS:SYSTEM\BACKSP7\UNINSTALL\NLS\4. (The numeral 4 designates English.)
  4. Rename the STARTUP.PT and AUTOEXEC.PT to STARTUP.NCF and AUTOEXEC.NCF.
Files in the \TOOLS Directory

The files located in the \TOOLS directory are not installed automatically; they require manual installation.

Setting Up NLS Licensing

After installing the Support Pack, follow these additional steps to install licensing:

  1. Make sure you have administrator rights to the server.
  2. At the server console type LOAD SETUPNLS, then press Enter. This installation will extend the NDS schema.
  3. Add "LOAD NLSLSP.NLM" to the AUTOEXEC.NCF file.
