Daak Brightwind
Daak was born on Corellia some 28 years ago,his father, Peorin Brightwind was a merchantman
and a freetrader and his mother was Jeome Brightwind-Shula, a junior engineer with the Corellian
Engineering Corporation. He didn't see that much of his father during his junior year's,but instead
he spent much time with his mother and at the starport.
As all little corellian he was verry interested in spaceships and adventures, the old spacehands
that knew his father was happy to tell their stories and they sometimes let the boy help them
tinker with their ships, most of them was astonished with his knowledge of spaceships and their
construction.
He sometimes even came up with Ideas that they hadn't thought of themself, and they started to
see him as their collective protogee.
His knowledge of starships came from his mother who was working with customizing Corellian
Corvette's according to the buyers wishes, and she often talked shop at home to Daak's delight.
His friendship with the free-trader community both gave him and saved him trouble, no grownup
outsider ever troubled him more then once, except for the time some dimwithed Rodian tried to
use him as leverage against the traders, needless to say that Rodian "disapered" shortly after the
insident.
It was also through the traders that he came to hear about the rebellion and the cruelty of the
empire, he sympathized with rebels but never thought much about it.
The trouble he was given by the traders was that Cor-Sec constantly harassed him with questions
about the traders, but he had his honor and would never tell them anything, least of all because
some of the modifications he had helped with was strictly illegal.
Then the Rebellion really blossomed up and Cor-sec where even more trouble then ever before, it
got to the point where he had trouble to get into the starport without some agent trying to stop
him.
Then something happend that really changed his life, his mother was killed.
She was killed by Imperial stormtroopers when they tried to apprehend a rebel agent, she was on
the wrong site at the wrong time, the impies didn't even apoligice.
His father went berserk and killed three stormtrooper with his bare hands, when he realized what
he had done he took Daak and fled from Corellia in his Correlian Corvette, the Galactic Trader.
His father wasn't all legit as a trader and had done his share of smuggling, it was by being a
smuggler he had come in contact with the Starforge station and also the rebellion.
Their first destination was Starforge station where his father used every saved credit to modify his
Corvette, he added a flightdeck with room enough for Four fighters, some stealth equipment,
Two missile launchers, two quad laser cannons, two Ion Cannons and a tractor beam, he also
upgraded the drive and shields.
The refited ship was a privateers dream, and privateering was it intent, his father had desided to
start privateering for the Reblleion, to get them some badly needed supplies.
His last credits he spent on four aging z-95 Headhunters, but with the help of Daak they where
soon as good as new and maybe even better.
All they needed was a crew, there where many voleunteers but his father only choose the best
people he could get his hands on.
The extensive refit had taken allmost a year, a year in which Daak, apart from helping with the
refit, had been taught the basics in flying everything from a swooper to a capital space-ship, he
kept himself constantly busy in an effort to get away from the pain of loosing his mother.
He even managed to talk one of the crew members to teach him how to fight, with both his fists and with a
blaster.
His father saw all this but didn't interfere, he reasoned that it was the best way for the boy to
handle the loss.
On their maiden voyage they had luck, they managed to overhaul a Imperial Gallofree medium
transport, in the taking of the ship Daak was allowed to fly one of the Headhunters and it was as
well he did, because the transport had teeth.
Two Tie/ln was launched as soon as the transport knew the Galactic traders intent, Daak
managed to shot down one of them, more through shear luck then anything else but he learned
from the experiance.
The next year and a half was an unbelievable success story, they managed to catch 29 ships,
ranging in size from the smaller light transports to their largest catch an Action IV transports.
During those catch Daak flew 10 combat missions in the Headhunter, gaining 7 kills, the rest of
the missions he was either on the Galactic Trader's bridge or in one of the gunwells, much of the
free time he spent tinkering with the ships.
He was also allowed to take command of the ship when there wasn't any danger, and he learned
the basics in commanding something as large as a Capital Ship, one time he was even assigned as
Prize Captain after one of their catches, it was the proudest moment in his life, standing there on
the bridge commanding the Medium transport, never mind it didnt have any guns, it was his
command.
After those first one and a half years they joined the Rebellion fleet, and through a series of
engagments Daak showed a knack for tactics, his father started to use him as tactical officer and
pretty soon the Galactic Trader was the flagship for a small Picketline with three other corvettes
and one of the awesome Corellian Gunships.
The picketline won many commendations for their tactics, they managed to bring many a
starship to their doom the largest kill they gained was a Dreadnaught, during all that time Daak
handled the Tactics of the line.
During their 23rd battle his father was mortally wounded and with the lack of a bacta-tank he was
doomed, Daak took over the ship during that engament and managed to bring down two Carrack
Cruisers and a Lancer Frigate with "his" line.
His 24th engagement was at Endor, this time he was only in command of the corvette, one of the
few that made it through that engagment, battered and bleeding air they managed to get back to
the rendevouz point.
After Endor the ship was decomissioned out of the fleet, Daak gave it to his first mate, who had
served him and his father for all that time.
Himself he had earned his Corellian bloodstripes, but with the emperor dead he didn't have a
goal in life.
He drifted around a bit learning more about the galaxy and the differant species inhabiting it.
When the New Republic was established he emidiatly applied for and was accepted into the
Naval Academy, he finished the course with top honors, not surprizingly with most of the other
students lacking any combat experiance.
Since then he have served as a Exec on a Assaultfrigate, and held numerous commands, the Carrack
Cruiser "Smoking Blaster", the MC80 Red Dawn(Cpt. in Unity Fleet), MC90 Rebel Yell as CO
of Nu Taskforce/Unity Fleet and as CO of Unity Fleet, the MC100c "Agamemnon" as CO of 1st Fleet.
Apart from this he has commanded several ships in short missions, the latest of which was a pirate
hunting expedition.
Personality & Description
He is a open person, but with that famous Corellian rougishness coloring his manors, never afraid
to give his opinions so some people might consider him a bit pushy.
He is 186 cm tall and weighs about 78 kg, Brown hair in a short crew-cut, browneyes with a
tinge of gold in them, he also has a short beard.
Daaks voice is a deep bas that can cut through almost any type of noice with its rumbelling,
a good thing for a battle commander.
---------------------------
After having served the New Republic for a long time, and having done so in the capacity of an
Admiral, Daak found himself getting tired of the work, where he once found joy he now
only found hard labour.
And with the his desire to become a jedi Daak came to a decision that affected his entire career.
Daak left the navy, and his prestigous position as Region Commander of 1st region
to be employed by the Scimitar Defense Conglomerate, hoping that he would once again find joy
and wonder in his work, and his work was promising as he was to become the Head of R&D. The salary of
500000 cr a year was also a factor.
Unfortunatly events turned against him as Attica tumbled down into a ruin, both economic and otherwise,
and Daak had to run for his life.
After about 4 months of running he found his way back into New Republic space and some peace of mind.
But beiong who he is Daak found that he could not do any "normal" work, he needed the thrill of commanding
a ship.
With this in hand Daak went to see his old friend and collegue, Admiral Micks Boboo, the current CO of 2nd Fleet,
After the meeting Brightwind was once again an officer in the New Republic Navy, allbeight a Captain.
His first command after his return was the NRS "Glory", a Victory I-class Destroyer in the 16th Squadron of 2nd fleet,
the training squadron.
