They comes from Bolivia

Ramiro & Oscar Ledezma were born in the village of Oruro, on the high plateau of Bolivia, 3800 m above sea level. This was originally the native land of a tribe of Indians called the Urus, before the conquest of the Sapnish and even before that of the Incas themselves. Near to the village was the Uru-Uru lake, where the indians would hunt for fish and birds - ducks and even flamingos! The language they spoke was called "Aymara", a language even older than the Incas, and the Gods they worshipped were the Sun and the Moon. They built hteir simple houses from clay and made their roofs from straw, and they lived a very peaceful existence.
When the Incas arrived, they imposed their language (Quechua) and their culture and customs on the Indians. But in spite of this, the Urus never lost their identity, and even nowadays, over a third of the population of Bolivia still speak Quechua, (Many are bilinual, and speak Quechua and often some Spanish as well).
The Ledezma family left Bolivia in 1982 for political reasons. They settled in Canada, where the group "Raymi Bambu" was formed. Their objective was to share the magic of their culture with others, using music and dance as forms of expression.
In 1990, they were offered the chance to cross the globe, to perform their music on the "old continent" - Europe. since this time, they have dilighted audiences in Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, Greece, Portugal, Italy, England and Spain.

Traditional Andean panpipers

Ramiro and Oscar have been playing traditional Andean panpipers (SIKU) since their earliest childhood in Bolivia. They first began experimenting with the Rumanian version of this enchanting instrument (NAI) in 1989, since which time, its haunting strains have become a permanent feature of the music of RAYMI BAMBU. The instrument is thought to date back to a legend from Greek mythology, in which a shepherd named Pan, chops a frail reed into seven pieces, and sticking them side by side, plays a tune on them to mourn the loss of his beloved nymph, Syrinx. He does not realise that the reed is Syrinx herself, transformed by the God of the River.
